Sara and John met at Wheaton College during January of 2021. They were both back at Wheaton early from winter break due to their on-campus jobs, John at the campus post office and Sara at the weight room desk. One day while working out, John's interest was sparked by the girl working at the desk. He was determined to work out twice per day until he figured out her work schedule. This was the only time in his life where John had worked out every day of the week.

Despite fiberglass barriers and Covid masks, John eventually made his move - commenting on her Minnesota sweatshirt, the state they're both from. Sara was unaware that this was a move, but after a few more awkward conversations struggling to hear each other over the music of the weight room, John officially asked Sara out on a coffee date.

After a coffee date on Super Bowl Sunday, it was very clear that Sara and John were interested in getting to know each other! Many more coffee dates, Chipotle trips, and Target runs helped them get through their time at Wheaton together.

John graduated from Wheaton in December of 2021 before pursuing grad school at the University of South Dakota in January 2022. Grad school meant a year of long distance as Sara wrapped up her time at Wheaton. She graduated in May and moved back to Minneapolis after accepting a teaching job in Minnesota. After the year of distance, John got a job in the Twin Cities and joined Sara in her hometown!

On October 15th, John proposed to Sara in Eau Claire, WI at the park where the couple first said they loved each other.
